According to the odds from our top NHL betting sites, Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers was awarded the 2024 Conn Smythe Trophy as the superstar player, even though his team did not win the Stanley Cup.

The Florida Panthers won the first three games of the Stanley Cup Final as they sought their first-ever NHL championship. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky played a key role in their success. However, the Edmonton Oilers turned the tide in Game 4, winning three games in a row to push the series to a decisive Game 7.

Despite Bobrovsky’s impressive performance in the crucial game, where he limited the Oilers to only one goal and prevented a reverse sweep, it was not sufficient for his team to secure victory.

The Oilers were propelled back into contention by Connor McDavid’s outstanding play, as he recorded four points in games 4 and 5 to break Wayne Gretzky’s record for most assists in a postseason. McDavid’s historic performance earned him the playoff MVP award, making him the first player since J.S. Giguere in 2003 to receive the honor while on the losing team.

Connor McDavid (-2500 via DraftKings)

McDavid’s odds at FanDuel were +1700 before he scored a goal and three assists in Game 4 on home ice. After another four-point night in Game 5, his odds shifted to negative and he became the clear favorite to win the award.

Since Jean-Sebastien Giguere won the Conn Smythe with the Anaheim Ducks in 2003, no player on a losing team had accomplished the same feat.

Nonetheless, McDavid has broken an NHL record for the most assists in a single postseason, surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s previous record set in 1987-88. Additionally, his 42 points in the playoffs were 10 points higher than the next highest-scoring skater.

How to bet on Conn Smythe Trophy odds

When placing bets on the Conn Smythe Trophy, which is given to the most valuable player in the NHL playoffs, it can bring both excitement and potential rewards. Here are some key things to keep in mind when wagering on this market:

  • Understand the criteria: The Conn Smythe Trophy is typically awarded to the player who has made the biggest impact on their team’s playoff performance. This could include exceptional scoring, stellar goaltending, leadership qualities, and clutch performances in crucial moments.
  • Research player performance: To make informed bets, research the performances of key players throughout the playoffs. Look for players who have consistently contributed to their team’s success and have stood out with exceptional play.
  • Consider team success: While individual performance is crucial, the success of the player’s team in the playoffs also plays a significant role in Conn Smythe Trophy voting. Players on teams that advance deeper into the playoffs are more likely to receive consideration for the award.
  • Look for value: Keep an eye out for players who may not be the obvious favorites but have the potential to make a significant impact during the playoffs. These players often provide value in the betting markets and can offer higher payouts if they win the Conn Smythe Trophy.

Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers could begin the playoffs with odds of +1000 to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. However, if he delivers standout performances and guides his team to the Stanley Cup Final, his odds could decrease to +200 as he becomes a frontrunner for the award.

The lower the odds for a player, the greater the likelihood that they will win the award.
