Stanley Cup Odds & Favorites 2025: Oilers, Panthers Hold Steady as Favorites
FOX once dubbed it as “the coolest game on earth,” a statement that is up for debate depending on who you ask. However, one thing that is not up for debate is the agonizingly long wait for the NHL season to start again. While we wait, we are passing the time by exploring the Stanley Cup odds for the 2024-25 season on our top NHL betting sites.
Now that the NHL draft is over and free agency is in full swing, we are focusing on our predictions for the 2025 Stanley Cup.
Most of the high-profile unrestricted free agents have signed with new teams as the league-wide player trades began, as teams aim to strengthen their rosters for a successful bid at winning the Stanley Cup.
The Stanley Cup odds for 2025 have shifted since the playoffs began. The Florida Panthers, the defending champions, and the Edmonton Oilers, whom they defeated in seven games to win the title, are both among the top contenders.

2025 Stanley Cup favorites
Oilers (+850)
A team with Connor McDavid in his prime will consistently be in the discussion for top contenders, similar to how Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins were in the past.
Edmonton pushed the Stanley Cup Final to a thrilling seven games after trailing 3-0, but ultimately fell short in completing the comeback and winning the series. History has shown that teams who experience defeat in the Final often use it as motivation to come back stronger and win the following year, as was the case in the 2023-24 season.
While the Oilers have some roster concerns, they are not a team to underestimate. They made significant moves on the first day of free agency, adding 12 players, including the return of Adam Henrique and the signing of the newly released Jeff Skinner.
Top odds: +850 on BetMGM with an implied probability of 10.53%
Panthers (+1000)
The Panthers are the favorites to repeat as champions after winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. However, the first step would be making a third consecutive trip to the Stanley Cup Final, which is no easy feat.
The majority of the Panthers’ core players will be back next season, but they will be saying goodbye to some important members of their defense. Dmitry Kulikov will be staying with the team, but Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Brandon Montour will be moving on to new teams.
Top odds: +1000 on bet365 | Chance of winning: 9.09%
Stars (+1100)
The Stars made it to the final four teams in the 2023-24 NHL playoffs and are poised to be strong contenders for another deep postseason run in the upcoming season.
Dallas reached the Western Conference Final last season, but was defeated by the eventual Stanley Cup champions, the Vegas Golden Knights. They made it to the same stage once again in the 2023-24 season, but this time fell to the Edmonton Oilers.
One of the main reasons why the Stars have become perennial contenders is due to the outstanding performance of goaltender Jake Oettinger. Assuming nothing unexpected happens, he will continue to be the team’s goalie in the 2024-25 season. Additionally, the Stars have a talented group of forwards, including Calder Trophy candidate Logan Stankoven, and will have a solid defense core to lead the team in the upcoming season.
Dallas acquired key unrestricted free agent Matt Duchene and added tough defenseman Matt Dumba to strengthen their defense. Unfortunately, the Stars also lost reliable defenseman Chris Tanev to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Top odds: +1100 on DraftKings | Probability of winning: 8.33%
My Stanley Cup team to watch
Hurricanes (+1400 via FanDuel)
In the past six years, Carolina has advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs four times, showcasing their skilled roster on both offense and defense. While Frederik Andersen is capable of stealing games as their goaltender, his age of 34 and susceptibility to injury are cause for concern.
This summer, the Hurricanes have bid farewell to key players such as Brett Pesce, Jake Guentzel, Brady Skjei, and Teuvo Teravainen.
Top odds: +1400 on FanDuel | Probability of winning: 6.67%
2025 NHL Presidents’ Trophy
Is there a curse more dreadful than appearing on the cover of the Madden video game? It’s possible.
The Presidents’ Trophy is awarded by the NHL to the team with the best regular season record, but winning it does not often lead to winning the Stanley Cup.
It has been over a decade since a team finished with the best regular-season record and won the Stanley Cup, with the last instance occurring in 2012-13 when the Chicago Blackhawks accomplished the feat.
However, you can predict which team will perform well during the regular season but struggle in the postseason.

How to read Stanley Cup odds
The Stanley Cup odds show the likelihood of each NHL team becoming champions and are usually shown in American odds format (+XXX). Teams with lower odds are considered favorites, while those with higher odds are seen as underdogs.
A team with +750 odds to win the Stanley Cup has an implied probability of 11.76% and a $10 bet would yield a $75 profit. Conversely, a team with +1500 odds has lower odds and a 6.25% implied probability, but a $10 bet would result in a $150 profit.
When evaluating odds for NHL playoff betting, bettors should take into account team performance, roster strength, injuries, and historical trends. By comparing odds from multiple sportsbooks, individuals can make well-informed decisions when placing bets.
