Auston Matthews, who scored 69 goals to win the 2024 Rocket Richard, is the early favorite to repeat as the winner based on the 2024-25 Rocket Richard odds.

Matthews was the sole favorite with negative odds to win the 2024-25 Rocket Richard Trophy on all of our top sports betting websites according to NHL odds.

Matthews ended the 2023-24 season with 69 goals, surpassing Sam Reinhart’s career-best 57 goals by 12. Zach Hyman had a remarkable season with the Edmonton Oilers, scoring 54 goals to secure the third spot among all skaters.

Throughout his impressive eight-year career, Matthews has achieved two seasons with 60 goals and six seasons with 40 goals. In the 2023-24 season, the Maple Leafs’ star player came extremely close to scoring 70 goals, narrowly missing the mark in the final few games. Matthews has been the recipient of three out of the last four Rocket Richard Trophies, with Connor McDavid being the only player to interrupt his dominant streak by winning in 2023.

Reinhart and Hyman have an impressive haul, but they are not considered among the favorites for the 2024-25 season. That distinction belongs to David Pastrnak, Leon Draisaitl, Kirill Kaprizov, and McDavid.

These are the current odds for the 2025 Rocket Richard Trophy before the start of the 2024-25 season, as provided by our top NHL betting sites.

Rocket Richard Trophy odds 2025 favorites

Auston Matthews (-110 via bet365)

Matthews’ odds of winning the Rocket Richard Trophy in 2024-25 are in the negative for good reason. The 26-year-old has scored over 60 goals in two of the last three seasons and has only failed to reach the 40-goal mark twice in his eight-year career. His goal-scoring consistency is matched only by his team’s playoff disappointments.

Matthews is clearly the front-runner for the award, with Pastrnak and Draisaitl as potential contenders. No other player has matched Matthews’ impressive goal-scoring streak.

David Pastrnak (+550 via FanDuel)

The player who won the Rocket Richard Trophy in 2020 is now the biggest challenge to Matthews’ impressive run. The Bruins’ top player scored 47 goals in the 2023-24 season, following up on his 61-goal performance in 2022-23. Only McDavid, with 64 goals, scored more in the 2022-23 season. Pastrnak struggled to reach 40 goals in his first five seasons, but has been consistently scoring at least 40 goals in the five seasons since then, except for one.

Leon Draisaitl (+850 via bet365)

Over the past six seasons, Leon Draisaitl has been nearly as impressive as Pastrnak, scoring a minimum of 40 goals in five of those years. He reached the 50-goal mark in three seasons, with totals of 50 in 2018-19, 55 in 2021-22, and 52 in 2022-23.

Draisaitl may view his 2023-24 season, in which he scored 41 goals, as a disappointment. Despite his consistent goal-scoring ability, there may be uncertainty about how rumors regarding his future will affect his performance. While there is speculation that he may not remain in Edmonton for much longer, Draisaitl is still expected to be among the league’s top goal scorers until any major changes occur.

Rocket Richard Trophy player to watch

Nathan MacKinnon (+1600 via bet365)

In the 2023-24 season, the current Hart Trophy holder netted an impressive 51 goals, setting a new career high. He led the league with 405 shots on goal in 81 games. Known for his shoot-first approach, MacKinnon excels at creating opportunities to unleash his powerful shots, making him one of the few players capable of consistently finding open shooting lanes.

Matthews claimed the 2024-25 Rocket Richard Trophy with an impressive 18.7 shooting percentage, while MacKinnon netted 51 goals with a shooting percentage of 12.6. If MacKinnon can boost his shooting accuracy, he may have a chance to compete with Matthews and a few other top goal scorers for the title.

MacKinnon had his best season in goals and assists last year and appears to be on the rise, leading me to believe he will surpass 50 goals for a second consecutive year.

How to bet on Rocket Richard Trophy futures

Before finalizing your Rocket Richard futures pick, it is important to carefully consider a few key areas.

Before making a decision, review the player’s recent history of scoring goals to ensure they are consistently productive and have been performing well in recent seasons. Additionally, confirm that the player is still in their prime and showing improvement in their performance.

It is crucial to choose a player who plays for a team known for their offensive prowess. Consider who the player will be sharing a line with – are they being set up by one of the top playmakers in the world, like McDavid assisting Draisaitl on the power play?

Ensure that the player you support is not prone to injuries or long absences. Consider the effectiveness of the power play in recent seasons and whether the player is competing in a less competitive division. This will increase their chances of success.
