In 2023, Spencer Strider was the top pitcher in terms of wins, and he is once again the favorite to lead in wins for the 2024 MLB season according to the latest odds and predictions from our top MLB betting sites.

Spencer Strider made a splash in 2022 as both a starter and reliever, leading the Atlanta Braves to victory with a league-leading 20 wins in 2023. He is now considered the frontrunner to repeat this success in 2024.

MLB 2024 wins leader favorite

Spencer Strider (+700 via Caesars)

Currently, only Caesars is offering odds on this market, so I would advise against betting on the shortest price available. However, it is clear why Strider is the early favorite in this situation.

In 2023, the Braves’ star pitcher was dominant, striking out an impressive 13.5 batters per nine innings while leading the NL with a 2.85 FIP. Unsurprisingly, he topped the majors with 20 wins, thanks in part to the strong lineup backing him up.

In 2024, all of that still holds true, and it’s possible that Strider has yet to reach his full potential as a pitcher. Strider is likely to secure at least 15 wins once again, with the potential to exceed that number if he remains in good health.

If you’re unsure about placing this bet, keep in mind that Strider is currently the front-runner in our Cy Young odds and strikeout leader odds, making him a strong contender in both categories.

MLB 2024 wins leader odds: Contender

Gerrit Cole (+900 via Caesars)

According to early odds from Caesars, it looks like the competition for first place is mainly between Strider and Cole. This is not surprising, as the Braves and New York Yankees have two of the top three highest MLB win totals for the upcoming 2024 season.

Despite finishing last year with an impressive 15-4 record and leading the AL in ERA, win percentage, innings pitched, and total starts, Cole has never been the MLB’s wins leader. His strong performance in 2023 suggests he has the potential to lead in wins, especially considering the lack of support from his offense.

Cole has been consistently healthy during his four seasons with the Yankees, but at age 33, there are some signs of aging with a slight decrease in his fastball speed. Although he is expected to be a key player by the end of the season, there is some uncertainty about his performance as he ages as a top pitcher.

MLB 2024 wins leader odds: Long shot

Bobby Miller (+5000 via Caesars)

Why not begin our search for pitchers with the potential to achieve high win totals by considering the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have the highest preseason win total in baseball and three MVP winners in their batting lineup?

Both Tyler Glasnow (+2000) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (+2500) have strong cases for being worth a bet in this market. However, I am also intrigued by Miller, who has the potential to become an ace and should have similar opportunities to accumulate wins in 2024.

In the regular season, Los Angeles considers using a six-man rotation, limiting the potential of their three talented pitchers. Despite this, I am willing to take a chance on Miller, who had an impressive record of 11-4 in 22 starts last season and has the potential to succeed with a bit of luck.

MLB 2024 wins leader odds analysis

Placing bets on the MLB wins leader doesn’t solely depend on the pitcher’s skill, but also factors like their opportunities, circumstances, and a bit of luck.

For instance, consider Gerrit Cole. In the 2023 season, the New York Yankees’ top pitcher excelled in numerous statistical categories in the American League, such as leading in games started (33) and win percentage (78.9%). Despite this, Cole only managed to win 15 of his 33 starts due to an unusually high number of 14 no-decisions. These no-decisions were largely a result of a lackluster lineup that ranked 25th in runs scored, with only 673 total runs.

In order to succeed in this market, a winning combination of skill, resilience, and team support is essential. This is why successful starters with a track record of success and a strong supporting roster are often the top picks. However, this formula can also uncover hidden gems that may not have the same reputation as a star player.
